Looking for Heaven in Mt. Vernon

work2blocks.jpgI haven’t really written much about my new apartment. Essentially I live one block down from I old apartment, except now I live on the 7th floor instead of the 3rd and have an awesome view out of the windows in the living room. I live in a neighborhood called Mt. Vernon which also known as the cultural district. It’s basically in the north east corner of downtown Baltimore.

There are a bunch of cool museums, churches, monuments, statues and generally cool old buildings around the area. The Maryland Institute College of Art(MICA) is right down the road so there’s a bunch of cool wild art sculptures and displays around also, but especially on the boulevard that runs in front of my place

Another fantastic thing about that boulevard is that only 2 blocks away is my office. I’m actually a block closer than I was in my old apartment. The only thing better than walking 2 blocks to work is not walking any blocks to work because you’re kicking it in your beautiful rural home with cell tower internet. Oh yeah.

pennStation.jpgA lot of people in my apartment commute to DC because Penn Station is only about 2 blocks away also. I love the National Bohemian billboard right next to Penn Station. National Bohemian is a local beer, affectionately known as “Natty Boh”. It tastes like Pabst Blue Ribbon except it costs even less than that in town. Lucky for me I like PBR, so Natty Boh is alright with me. Yeah, yeah, I hear you all you beer snobs, but I’m not listening :-P

John Hopkins and Charles Village are about a mile and a half north I can see some of the buildings from my window looking north. There’s also a bunch of churches and cooler old style buildings that are closer. It’s all very pretty except that I wish the really beautiful buildings weren’t churches but like farmer’s markets or neighborhood community centers.

windowMtRoyal.jpgThe same people could come every Sunday except instead of praising an invisible man in the clouds they could be talking to each other and working together to solve common problems and build themselves up. We need to quit looking for heaven in the clouds and make it right here on Earth. And even if you do believe in God don’t you think he’d prefer to see his children working together and taking care of his other creations, like the planet and each other? I certainly hope that any God would want that compared to having his own creations spend all their time trying to tell him how great he is.

I yield the floor.
