Accountability in Washington, D.C.
Tomorrow morning, September 15th, around 10 a.m. I’m heading down to meet up with thousands of anti-war protesters on the lawn in front of the White House. At around noon we’ll begin marching to congress, supposedly in the hopes that this will influence them into some form of action to bring about a more rapid response.
Unfortunately it seems, that in our times the average people of the U.S.A are thought of as some sort of pest by our governmental representatives. They pander to us every 2 years like clockwork. They say, sure we’ll bring real changes. All that I end up seeing is a “D” in front of state abbreviations instead of “R”s.
Such a profound change should surely send a powerful message. The “R”s are done for and the “D”s are the new sheriff in town. Watch yourself because they are fully trained in urban Sesame St. combat; but all I’ve seen is the continuation of flagrant corruption and war profiteering.
Still… I’m not convinced of the power of mass demonstrations, but I know that it certainly can’t be hurting matters. Agressive resource wars against foreign nations will never solve the problem that there simply isn’t enough cheap energy/oil in the world. We could and should be spending our money to find some other type of energy source.
I love alternative energy, but it simply isn’t enough to maintain what people have to come to expect. It can’t power so many refrigerators, air conditioners, or cars, yet perhaps thats not necessarily a bad thing. We need to change the way we live, its not healthy, which is painfully clear from any study ever done on average American health.
Really though, thats beside the point. Tomorrow morning when I leave I’ll be taking a plain white picket sign with me. On one side I will carry the short quotes and messages of my friends and family. On the other side I will draw a large number counting the number of people I represent including myself. This should make it plainly clear to the counters at the media conglomerates how many people are present…everyone you count….plus 4.
Of course I know they don’t actually count. People say its however many people are appropriate for the cause they’re supporting. The people against it, under-estimate and people for it, over-estimate. Still, those numbers only get repeated through the mass media channels that support them. Hooray Internet!
Also tonight I bought www.ReperesentNation.org tonight. I plan on developing it into a fully functional social networking system with the goal of organizing people who are conveniently located and motivated to represent people who aren’t reasonably located and cannot attend whatever event for whichever reason. I hope that this hopes to reveal the iceberg or consensus to our representatives and could possibly be influential in the decision making process in the future. If you want me to carry your message you have around 8 hours to do so, at which point I’ll be inking the sign and heading out the door. Next time I’ll give a longer heads up.

Surge me once, shame on Bush

I know our Texans for Peace message isn’t as punchy as the great one held by those two young women (but really, who’d WANT to give Bush a blow job….?) It’s a sad state of affairs when a U.S. president can be impeached for being a philanderer but not for being responsible for the deaths and injuries of thousands of innocent, and trusting, people. Thanks for representing us today in D.C. I can’t wait to read your post when you return from the White House.
