An Opportunity for Progress
I spent the last month canvassing for Obama, especially in the last 4 or 5 days. I figure I knocked on over 600 doors. It felt good and I promised myself after 2004 I was going to be more active in ‘08, it didn’t hurt that I liked the candidate a lot more this time either.
Over the last 8 years I’ve felt like doing anything progressive was futile. Even Peace Corps felt like it had been gutted and was just kept in place because actually dismantling it would be bad PR. Today after the election I feel like I could get involved in different programs and help push the possibility of social change into reality. In other words there’s not some a-hole sitting at the top of the hill to push me back down again if I worked my way that high.
I also feel like the rest of the World is breathing a sigh of relief and they’re going to give us on more chance. We better not fuck it up.
I also have a few observations on the election last night that I want to share. First, I think it’s great that black children can now dream of one day holding the highest office in the land, just as mentally impaired children can because of George Bush.
Another thing I noticed last night was a lot of comments made by Democrats that McCain’s concession speech was the best speech he’d given during the entire campaign. On that point, I can’t agree more. A speech where he admits defeat and congratulates my candidate on victory… yep, I like that speech very much indeed.
Not Slowing Down

Us Yellowdog Democrats in Texas are still howling with happiness and hopefulness because of Barack and Joe’s win yesterday. Texas may have gone electorally to McCain, but it wasn’t because of a lack of effort by us dogs. I have to argue a bit with you about your statement that mentally impaired children can now dream of becoming president because of our Texan, George Bush. George isn’t mentally impaired. He’s mentally LAZY. He’s been allowed to good ol’ boy and bamboozle his way through life and in some ways, I think comparing him to children who are mentally disabled is an insult to those children. Just my two Texas cents.
