Rove and Gonzalez. Time for their payoff.
They may be gone but their stench is everywhere and they’re going to have a much harder time avoiding it than they bargained for. I seriously doubt that Rove or Gonzalez will be able to go out in public for many years and not be heckled or even attacked without a bodyguard.
I’m sure they’d argue that we don’t understand the sacrifices they’ve made for us. I imagine them perched in the towers of power looking down on Americans, and the world, as ignorant peasants for them to shepherd. They have to protect us from ourselves, otherwise we’d go around shoving forks in our eyes and putting solar panels on our roofs. Stupid peons.
In some respect they were right. People were gullible enough to buy their fear-mongering and subsequent abuse of power. However, they failed to have the foresight that even the village idiot gets tired of being wrong at some point. As the saying goes, “fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice…can’t get fooled again”.
I don’t believe Rove went into politics in order to make money. I think he thought of it as a challenge and he’d do whatever he had to win. Unfortunately for him, he found glory turned to ash in his mouth. I have no doubt he realized long ago that his ship was sinking and already has well prepared life raft(including body guard) waiting for him.
I also have no doubt that he hasn’t clued Bush into the fact that he has no clothes or that he’s sinking. This theory that he’ll somehow be viewed as a hero with time is likely just some delusion they’re using to placate him.
Gonzalez also strikes me as the type of guy who would do anything to win. For some reason I don’t think he was as interested in power as he was in money, but he just happened to be associated with someone with power and figured money would come along.
I have a feeling he wasn’t as prepared as Rove and that all his attempts to save his public image(and his resume) will have actually made matters worse. Not admitting any wrong doing when you clearly have been only makes you seem pathetic and self-serving, just ask his boss.
I’m sure he’ll still find a job from one of the 29% of people who still support this administration. The same 29% who cannot admit when they’re wrong and who would likely still support Bush even if he ate a baby live on national television. I mean if “Brownie” can still find a job, then Gonzo is set.

Well said! These toads will find a career somewhere else among that 29% of right-wing nuts and evil doers, but the frog giggers are out in force this time and I foresee a bad moon rising on these two self-serving slimeballs. Good column!
